What's in the room

We'd rather undersell than overpromise, so here's what guests mention again and again in their reviews: rooms that are spacious and spotlessly clean, beds you actually sleep well in, cold air-con, fast wifi and a smart TV for flat spells.

Every room opens onto its own balcony with a table and chairs, facing the ocean. That balcony is where your surf checks, coffees and sunset beers happen.

The balcony is the amenity

Ujung Bocur — Karang Nyimbor — breaks right out front. From your chair you can count the sets, watch the crew paddle out, and decide whether breakfast comes before or after your first session.

Evenings go the other way: the sun drops straight over the reef, the sky does its show, and the kitchen downstairs is already warm.

Straight talk before you book

This is remote Sumatra, not a resort island. The whole coast gets the occasional power cut, the road here is long, and cards won't get you far — bring more cash than you think you need. What we can promise is a clean room, a real bed, honest food and the two of us actually being here.
